NHS Nurse talks of her time in Poland
In December I had the pleasure of attending the Secret Surgery VIP trip to Wroclaw. I was there in my capacity as an aftercare nurse but I am also employed as a manager in the NHS and have my own private aesthetic practice. I was surprised to read the article printed a few days later in The Sun as it bore little resemblance to the weekend I had been on. Whilst I do have an interest in Secret Surgery I am also a registered nurse and as such am bound by my code of conduct which means that I always put the interests of patients first.
Jennifer Tippett was given access to personal information disclosed by individuals who in some cases had told no one else of their journey or indeed any past or planned surgery. Much of what she wrote was embellished or just plain lies, for example no 17 year old who attended had a consultation with the surgeon regarding a ‘nose job’. A huge opportunity was missed to show the fabulous skills of the surgeons at EMC who perform life changing surgery for the patients who choose to go there.
“These are patients who in some cases have already had several consultations in the UK and been exposed to some particularly poor medical practice such as that highlighted in the Keogh report published on 31st December which highlights high pressure sales tactics and ‘special offers’. I did not witness any such practices at secret surgery unlike here in the UK.”
Having met the surgeon individually and had the chance to look around the hospital I must say how impressed I was with their exemplary practices and the beautiful, immaculate and clean hospital, it is such a shame that Jennifer chose not to mention any of this but instead mentioned a patient who had returned to have surgery corrected ‘free of charge’. Again this was simply not true.
Jennifer likened the atmosphere to that of a hen night and if by that she meant a group of women enjoying themselves in a lovely part of the world just before christmas then yes, that is exactly what the weekend was. After all some of those attending had lost huge amounts of weight and were considering more life changing events in the future. Perhaps they should not have been enjoying their new found confidence with new and supportive friends? And perhaps they would have thought twice before opening up to Jennifer if they had realised how biased and superficial her article would be.

The Man Behind the Women: Jacek Zmijewski
Out of bikinis and into boxers, today we’re going to take a ‘brief’ (get it?) look at the man behind Secret Surgery’s designer vaginas. Jacek Zmijewski is our expert gynaecologist surgeon, with years of experience with women’s bodies! Today, we’ve managed to get a few minutes with him, and I can tell you – he’s one of the nicest guys in EMC Hospital!
Hi, Jacek! That’s Jack in English, right? “Yes! My name is Polish, of course. I graduated from the Medical Academy in Wroclaw in 1986, and then went on to study my Second Degree Specialization in Gynecology-Obstetrics, and finished that in 1993. I completed my PhD. In 1996, and am a member of the Polish Society of Obstetrics and the Polish Society of Gynecologics.”
Wow, a filled resumé, then. But, enough about work. What do you like to do in your free time? “I’ve got a beautiful wife who is also a fabulously talented and famous Professor of Gynaecology too and a wonderful daughter, so I obviously love to spend time with them. My hobby, it has to be said, is women! But I also enjoy travelling – to Asia, America… anywhere that’ll take me! I’m also known as a bit of a joker.”
Known as a joker and a great Gynecology Doctor in Poland? Jacek is doing well! He’s an invaluable part of the team here at Secret Surgery, and, as well as being a highly-skilled surgeon, he’s also just a lovely guy.

Considering Pectoral Implants?
About procedure:
Having a pectoral implant means undergoing a cosmetic surgery to change the appearance and the size of the pectoral muscles. These are the muscles in a male chest, which are impressive and good to look at.
Pectoral implants are solid, silicone prosthetic devices, which are specially carved and shaped for every individual who is having the implant done before insertion. After the implant, they should look and feel natural, yet give them the desired chest according to each individual body shape or defect. Bicep and triceps implants are the ones most commonly used to shape, enlarge and firm the upper chest and arm areas and if they are correctly inserted then they give a natural appearance of the chest and muscles in both the flexed and relaxed condition.
An incision is made in the armpit and a pocket is created in the fascia of the upper pectoral muscle. Once the implant pocket is created, a soft, solid silicone implant is sculpted to the exact size and most esthetic appearance.
Usually, this sculpting requires vast knowledge from having placed many pectoral implants before, to know specifically how the final implant will look after healing. Once sculpted, the silicone implant is inserted into the pocket and it is secured with a few small self-dissolving sutures. The external incision is closed, and a very small dressing is placed under the arms to promote rapid healing. The patient can typically see the change to the pectoral area immediately after surgery.
During the recovery period, the patient is instructed not to lift their arms after surgery. When the dressings are removed the patient is told to follow a gentle exercise program for the next few weeks to permit a full and comfortable range of motion of the arms. This allows the pec implants to settle into the fascia pockets that surround the muscle. Generally within a week or two, physical use of the upper body muscles may be resumed and within one month, full pectoral muscular activity may be recommenced.
PLEASE NOTE: This method may result in the appearance of stretch marks on the chest (tattoos can become distorted)

Mary: My Vaser Lipo
Mary, from Ireland, has got more news for us today about the surgeries she underwent with us earlier this year. Mary came to Secret Surgery for Vaser Lipo on her thighs, and apparently hasn’t looked back since. Here’s what she’s got to say about it.
“Three years ago, I started attending Weight Watchers after seeing a picture of myself at a wedding. I was disgusted with how I looked, and after two and half years at Weight Watchers I managed to bring my weight down by six stone and eight pounds!”
“The result was fantastic, but it also meant I had a lot of saggy bits and extra skin left over after such a large weight loss. I looked into cosmetic surgeries in Ireland, but they were all too expensive.”
“This is when I came across Secret Surgery. I contacted Angela, and she was so quick to respond! She was considerate, and I had so many questions – but to her there was no such thing as a silly question!”
“I left with my sister-in-law, Valerie, for Wroclaw on April 28th, and I was so impressed when we got to the hospital. It was immaculate, and the staff were amazing and friendly. I had the vaser lipo as part of my second operation, and it was painless, comforting and easy!”
“It was the best decision of my life. Angela was great, and my experience was made so much better by being there with Valerie, and meeting Sacha, another patient there at the time. We explored the hospital together, and had a great time.”
It’s always wonderful to hear that people have positive experiences here at Secret Surgery. If you’ve got a story to share with the world, don’t hesitate to drop us an e-mail with your Secret Surgery Story.

He’s Got the Moobs Like Jabba…
Never mind Moves Like Jagger – we wish – more of us ladies have to put up with men that have got moobs like Jabba! Moobs, or man boobs, as you might also call them, can result in men for two reasons, though both of which are correctable with cosmetic surgery. I’m sure I speak for more than just myself when I say that moobs are not the most attractive
The first is medical; a condition called clinical gynecomastia, also known as male breast enlargement, can be caused by a hormonal imbalance of elevated levels of oestrogen or lowered levels of testosterone. While this condition can go away of it’s own accord, it can also hang around, and in these cases it’s certainly worth seeing a doctor to find out about the possibilities of medication or surgery.
Of course, not all men have that excuse. Most moobs probably come about simply because the chest area, like everywhere else on our bodies, is somewhere that excess fat can be stored. I know enough from my own body that when you pile on the pounds, they end up everywhere you least want them. Women aren’t the only victims of this!
Now, you could go out and buy yourself a manissiere, but let’s face it: that’s hardly going to make you feel any more masculine, is it? One way to really eradicate those moobs is to opt for liposuction, which can remove the fat from the pockets on the chest, thus bringing your man boobs down to a more manly size.
Male breast reduction is becoming more and more popular in the UK, as men stop seeing cosmetic surgery as a vanity, and more as something that they sometimes might just need to do for themselves. All jokes aside, ‘moobs’ can make a man feel very feminine, and it’s obviously not great for confidence or self-esteem.
But, don’t fret. It’s pretty easy to turn yourself from Jabba the Hutt into Han Solo, with a little nip here, and a tuck there… At Secret Surgery, we can arrange the scans to determine whether you need a gynacomasty or liposuction, and the surgery, flights and accommodation will all be sorted out by us.

Euro 2012: WAGs Galore?
This June, Wroclaw is proud to be a host city for a Euro 2012 football match. Here at Secret Surgery’s Wroclaw clinic, we’re based not-so-far away from the stadium, and we’re wondering whether some of the Euro 2012 WAGs might drop by during their visit to Eastern Europe’s sunniest city.
After all, why not head out for an afternoon of pampering and plastic surgery while your bloke gets his kicks on the football field? A holiday is for both partners to enjoy – and treating yourself to a quick nip here and a tiny tuck there is a great way to make a great trip even better.
The world of WAGs is hardly unfamiliar with plastic surgery; a recent article from the UK’s Daily Mail newspaper had an expert plastic surgeon comment on Victoria Beckham’s likely history of surgery, which includes a tip rhinoplasty, and some skin treatment, and Coleen Rooney has before been the subject or rumours about both Botox and boob jobs.
It’s no surprise that some of the world’s most scrutinised women want to be perfect for the cameras, and plastic surgery helps them come closer to that goal. Whether any WAGs will drop through our doors this June, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Angela Chouaib, MD and founder of Secret Surgery Ltd., says “It’s wonderful to feel that every day, you’re making someone’s life a little better. Our location in beautiful Wroclaw makes Secret Surgery a fantastic destination for cosmetic surgery holidays; our patients go home with great memories, a fantastic tan, and a stunning new look.”

Revenge Plastic Surgery
Divorce is on the rise and partners are not dutiful: these are the lines we read every day in the media. To seek revenge on your ex by having plastic surgery; now that’s a little less common. Or is it?
A growing number of women, and even a handful of men, are opting for cosmetic change to combat a partner’s infidelity.
It’s prudent to get the context right: this phenomenon is seemingly exclusive to Beverly Hills. According to plastic surgeon Dr. John Anastasatos, one third of his patients are immediate post-divorce cases.
There are, of course, many different motives behind the desire to make oneself over, but the predominant reason for going under the knife is revenge, says one patient. Elizabeth’s story is in many ways typical of the unrealistic lifestyle in California. Her husband’s confession of adultery drove her to Dr. Renato Calabria, another famous surgeon offering post-trauma surgery. He gave her a short-lived boost in the form of effusive praise and flattery, before handing her the estimate for the extensive list of procedures. Of course, Elizabeth initially wondered how on earth she was going to cough up the cash. ‘I went right home and sold my wedding ring to finance the whole thing’ she said; ‘I couldn’t do it fast enough!’
Angela Chouaib, MD at Secret Surgery Ltd in the UK, said ‘People get cosmetic surgery for all manner of reasons. It would be wrong to conclude that some reasons are ‘righter’ than others. Nevertheless, it is the duty of the surgeon to ensure that the patient is in the right state of mind for undergoing the procedure, and is not rushing into it without having thought things through.’
The work she underwent is confidential, as is the case with many women opting for ‘vengeance’ surgery. You see, many go on from their messy marriages to take up a ‘cougar’ lifestyle: tight-lipped about their age and surgical history, they want to date younger men without the burden of their past. They’re looking for a boost, something to pump up their self-confidence; abusive and untrustworthy partnerships will undoubtedly do that. This much is true, and there’s nothing wrong with needing a lift; physical, or emotional, we all need to feel good.
What is debatable, is whether these surgeons should be recommending therapy instead. You have to question why surgeons agree to nip, tuck and alter these women, when most are preened to perfection already. Monopolising on people’s low self-esteem should not be the business of surgery. Making sure they have the right motivation; now that’s what Beverly Hills needs.
